Paddlers' News - December 17

Welcome to the latest edition of Paddlers' News - your quick guide to all things EEKCC!

SSOTM River Paddle- December

Our next beginner friendly white water outing is on Sunday 10 December. As usual, this will suit paddlers who are comfortable on flat water and are looking for an introduction to moving water. You must be able to wet exit with a spray deck and the ability to paddle in the direction you want would be a distinct advantage! Full details in the forum or ask one of the coaches at the pool. NB as this is a winter time trip and it can be cold, wet or dry suits are required. Trip is weather and water conditions dependent. The club does not supply wet suits - though you might be able to borrow from other members. Cheap and cheerful wet suits can be found in retailers like Decathlon or Lomo (local company and good value!).

LSOTM - sea paddle

There is no LSOTM this month as it is Hogmanay! But keep an eye on the forum in case there is a late notice paddle over the holidays!

Sea kayaking coaching

Stuart and Neil's Saturday morning newbies sea kayak coaching sessions have been well attended and seemingly good fun with lots of learning and banter! There may be some more sessions arranged in the New Year - keep an eye on the forum.

Canoe Coaching

Come the less inclement weather, Gavin and Dougie hope to run similar sessions for those interested in canoe paddling. These will be aimed at any member who wants to try a canoe.

If there is demand for those wanting to do their 3 star canoe award, this can be arranged.

Diary Dates/ Coming Up

15 December - last pool night for 2017, Billy's Famous Festive Fun Night - one not to be missed!

Xmas Holidays

Pressy Paddle - traditional chance to bring your new paddling toys out.
Social Cycle - come burn off some calories, then eat more in a cafe! Route and venue to suit those interested.
More details in the forum in due course.

2018

A long way off but...

12 January - pool sessions restart!
14 January - SSOTM - river
28 January - LSOTM - sea

3 February - Annual Dinner and Prize Giving - our social highlight of the year.
Put your best gear on and enjoy a meal and blether with your paddling chums and see who won an award this year. Family members are also very welcome to this. Joan and Tracy have been hard at work securing a fantastic deal at the Lost Lamb Restaurant, Auldhouse. Tickets are on sale now at £22.95 for three courses including tea/coffee. Get your ticket here. We need to let the restaurant know how many are coming so ticket sales are going to have to close no later than 4 January - don't delay booking or you may miss out!

Annual General Meeting - this takes place in either late February or early March before the pool session. This is the time when the committee report back to members on the running of your club. It is also your chance to get more involved in the club by standing for election to the committee. We'll say more about what's involved in a future edition!
As this is the last edition for 2017, it only remains to wish all members of EEKCC a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
